Fundación Banco Santander supports the musical season at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, which offers a wide-ranging programme of opera, dance, concerts and recitals.
In 2020, the foundation sponsored a spectacular production of Aida with scenography by Mestres Cabanes and stage direction by Thomas Guthrie. Conductor Gustavo Gimeno led the Orquesta Sinfónica and the Coro del Gran Teatre del Liceu, alongside an unbeatable lineup of singers. Fourteen performances of Verdi’s masterpiece were given between 13 January and 2 February. Additionally, it was livestreamed at 150 cinemas around Spain on 22 January and screened at 56 cinemas around the world by summer 2020.
The foundation also supported the recital by tenor Javier Camarena on 18 January 2020, in which he performed pieces from French and Italian operas with accompaniment by pianist Ángel Rodríguez.
