Fundación Banco Santander believes in cooperation as a means of fulfilling our mission and objectives. We work on projects in collaboration with other European organizations with the aim of generating knowledge, thinking about and testing solutions to challenges facing our society, such as sustainability, social inclusion, and depopulation. Learn about the European projects we develop with an intersectoral approach between culture and social action.

CREASUS

With the aim of promoting sustainable transformation in cultural industries, Fundación Banco Santander is leading the CreaSus project, funded by the European Commission, together with partners from academia, business, and cultural sector representatives. The five countries that make up the working group, led by Fundación Banco Santander, are Belgium, Italy, Greece, Ireland, and Spain.

The objective of CreaSus is to develop a set of sustainability indicators in three areas: social, environmental, and economic, from which a self-assessment tool for cultural industries will be built.

As a result of this assessment, the project will design a series of proposals for sustainable transformation actions so that companies can improve their results in the areas analyzed. In addition, it will offer a list of sources of financing for sustainability and sustainable business models developed for cultural industries.

RELIGHT

The RELIGHT project stems from the realization that Cantabria faces challenges shared with other rural inland areas in southern Europe: the aging and depopulation of rural areas; territorial imbalance, with a greater concentration of resources, employment, and cultural offerings in coastal and urban areas; and governance difficulties, such as poor coordination between large institutions in urban areas and rural communities inland.

RELIGHT is run by a consortium of organizations from Spain, France, and Portugal, led by Fundación Banco Santander, which will seek solutions to these challenges in the three countries. With its launch, Fundación Banco Santander and Fundación Camino Lebaniego aim to contribute to solving these challenges in the Campoo – Los Valles region, taking advantage of the opening or reopening of cultural infrastructure in the region in the coming years (Faro Santander, MUPAC, Archivo Lafuente, La Lechera de Torrelavega).

The project proposes the design and implementation of action plans to boost tourism in rural inland areas, which will be generated in co-creation laboratories with rural communities, connecting urban cultural institutions and agents with rural cultural, tourist, and natural heritage, in four main areas: itineraries for territorial revaluation and actions to enhance cultural and natural heritage (led by the Camino Lebaniego Foundation) and artistic residencies related to the territory and cultural and educational mediation actions with local community actors (led by the Banco Santander Foundation).
