This volume brings together over seventy interviews of fifty-seven Spanish thinkers and leading figures from fields of the arts and letters (Pérez Galdós, Picasso, Victoria Kent, Margarita Xirgu, Pío Baroja, Ramón y Cajal, Pastora Imperio, etc.) published in the Argentine press from 1907 to 1958. As an anthology, it constitutes a veritable jewel of what could be termed journalism d’auteur given the repertoire of literary resources on display that serve to reconstruct the figures of those interviewed.

The author and researcher Beatriz Ledesma Fernández de Castillejo wrote the prologue and compiled these conversations which transcend the mere question and answer formula. 

The book was presented on 22 April in an online press conference at which the anthologist was accompanied by the journalists Juan Cruz, Bieito Rubido and Pablo Gianera.

El alma de los muertos brings together a collection of texts by the Hispano-Cuban author Alfonso Hernández-Catá, who enjoyed enormous prestige in his two homelands, though at present he is much better known in Cuba than Spain.

The researcher, Juan Pérez de Ayala, has carefully selected a representative sample of his art from the writer’s extensive and diverse literary production: his best stories, a bestiary, five haikus and several biographical sketches of well-known personalities from the world of culture (María Zambrano, Valle-Inclán, Oscar Wilde, etc.) published in magazines and newspapers of the time. A letter from the author to Gabriela Mistral and a farewell written by the Chilean poet dedicated to him on the occasion of his funeral close the book.

The online presentation took place on 24 June, at which the writer José María Merino accompanied the book’s anthologist, Juan Pérez de Ayala.

On the occasion of the centenary of the birth Carmen Laforet, the foundation reprinted this Cuaderno de Obra Fundamental first published in 2017. Containing the unpublished letters both writers exchanged over a period of eighth years, up to the death of Fortún, the book reflects the intense friendship and mutual admiration of both writers.

The professor of literature, Nuria Capdevila-Argüelles and Carmen Laforet’s daughters, Cristina and Silvia Cerezales, who are also writers, prepared the edition. Indeed, both of the latter in their two prologues tell how much their mother valued this correspondence and the importance Elena Fortún’s stories had for her throughout her life.

This reprint contains a selection of the fifteen letters in podcast format that give us an insight into some of the most revealing episodes in this epistolary relationship between the author of Nada and the writer who gave us the fictional Celia.
