Juan Chabás (Denia, 1900-Havana, 1954) was a laborious articulator and essayist of great intellectual curiosity. He became the spectator who attended the most important artistic and literary period of contemporary times: the historical avant-garde. With his journalistic criticism and the volume Poets of All Times he successfully took essayist prose to the highest peak of neatness and beauty.

The volume contains a varied sample of his critical production on Spanish literature of the 1920s and 1930s, especially on its most outstanding manifestations in the genres of poetry and artistic prose.

Javier Pérez Bazo (Madrid, 1953), Professor of Spanish Literature at the University of Toulouse-Jean Jaurès in France and author of some twenty volumes on contemporary literature, is responsible for the selection of texts in this volume.
