Juan Larrea (Bilbao, 1895-Córdoba, Argentina, 1980) was one of the most influential and disconcerting authors of the Generation of 27, and was considered by many critics in the late 1960s to be the greatest avant-garde Spanish poet.

In this anthology, almost all the poems of the Versión Celeste (1969) are collected, together with the most significant texts of Orbe (1930), while a wide sample of his essays is offered in Rendición de espíritu (1943), El surrealismo entre viejo y nuevo mundo (1944) and La espada de la paloma (1956).

The collection of texts and the prologue are the work of Gabriele Morelli (Campofilone, Italy, 1937), professor of Spanish Literature at the University of Bergamo and prestigious Italian Hispanist specializing in the Generation of 27.
