The poet Gastón Baquero (Banes, Cuba, 1918-Madrid, 1997) went into exile in Madrid after the triumph of the Cuban revolution. Protected by the Franco regime, he collaborated in the Spanish magazine Mundo Hispano and worked for the Institute of Hispanic Culture. The exile meant a radical change in his poetic conception.
The Fundamental Works Collection began with the publication of these two volumes which gather a selection of literary essays where Gastón's humanist and committed career is showcased.
The introduction, chronology and bibliography of the author were written by Professor Alfonso Ortega Carmona (Águilas, Mucia, 1929-Germany, 2018) and the poet and essayist Alfredo Pérez Alencart (Puerto Maldonado, Peru, 1960).
