Fernando Vela (Oviedo, 1888-Llanes, 1966) was a prominent personality in Spanish culture and his name became very respected in journalistic circles. Together with José Ortega y Gasset, he founded the Revista de Occidente.

The essays collected in this volume attest to a plural interest that covers current affairs and history, literature and art, politics, sociology, philosophy, science... Although Vela published a derisory percentage of his abundant production in several compilations, excellent works were left out.

Eduardo Creus, professor of Spanish Literature at the University of Turin, has brought together the best of these essays in this volume while carrying out the introductory study.
