Carlos Fuentes (Panama, 1928-Mexico City, 2012) and Luis Buñuel (Calanda, 1900-Mexico City, 1983) resonate strongly with 20th century culture. The first, winner of the Cervantes Prize, was one of the most important representatives of the Latin American boom. The second, a pioneer of Spanish cinema and one of the most universal and influential directors, whose visual and narrative cosmology influenced the imagination of writers such as García Márquez, Cortázar, Vargas Llosa and Donoso.

Luis Buñuel or the gaze of the Medusa reaches readers in its original state of palpitation, overflowing with recognition of the figure of Buñuel and his work, seasoned with unpublished letters sent between the two authors, which illustrate the process and context of this work in creation and attest to their relationships and personality. Buñuel's visionary capacity to anticipate the events of 1968, his journey between reality and dream, the legacy of realism and surrealism, the influence of Sade and religion, or the presence of the trinity in the Ibero-American ideology thread this work, in which the Mexican writer gives voice to that of Calanda through a series of conversations.

Javier Herrera Navarro (Murcia, 1951), librarian, art historian and one of the great specialists in the figure of the Aragonese filmmaker, is the author, among others, of Las Hurdes de Buñuel, Evidencia fílmica, estética y lenguaje (2007) and Luis Buñuel en su archivo (2015).
