Ernesto Giménez Caballero (Madrid, 1899-1988), was a writer with a steel pen, a risky style and an essayist vocation that was fundamental in Spanish literature in the 1930s. He was the driving force behind the so-called Generation of ‘27 and other young talents of the period. His literary work was obscured by his political commitment, which led him to take an active position in the Falange, a supporter of Franco’s coup d'état and subsequently, the dictatorship.

Some of the works that make up this volume are Los toros, las castañuelas y la Virgen, a selection from Arte y Estado and several articles published in La Gaceta Literaria, where Caballero demonstrates his versatility in handling language and his transition from vandalism to mysticism. Juan Manuel Bonet described him as "the man orchestra of our historical avant-garde".

José Carlos Mainer (Zaragoza, 1944), literary historian and one of our great literary critics, specialist in Valle Inclán, Pío Baroja, Juan Valera, or Antonio Machado, oversaw the selection of texts and wrote the preface for the work of one of the key figures of the Spanish avant-garde.
