Visiones de la Tierra / El mundo planeado

Santander Art Gallery

FROM FEBRUARY 20 TO JUNE 10 - 2018

Visiones de la Tierra / El mundo planeado. Luís Paulo Montenegro Collection is part of the series of exhibitions on contemporary art that we organise at the Santander Art Gallery located in Grupo Santander City. Montenegro began his collection in 1999, when he bought his first work, La Índia Carajá by Cândido Portinari, at an auction. Today this is one of the most important collections of modern and contemporary art in Brazil.

Rodrigo Moura, the curator of this exhibition, has selected over 200 pieces that reflect the artistic tastes of the collector, who began by taking an interest in Brazilian modernism, then in Latin American art and Brazilian and international concretism, and finally in contemporary art. Among the 106 selected artists, important names of Brazilian modern art stand out, such as Alfredo Volpi, Lygia Clark, Lygia Pape, Wifredo Lam, Hélio Oiticica, Cildo Meireles, Ernesto Neto; as well as renowned international artists such as Alexander Calder, Andy Warhol or Willem de Kooning.
