Ramón Pérez de Ayala (Oviedo, 1880-Madrid, 1962) belonged to a generation of Spaniards, the so-called "Generation of ‘14", who felt the need to travel and be educated abroad, to get to know other cultures, to learn from them and to try to transform the teachings received into improvements for their own country.

This volume gathers a wide selection of the journalistic chronicles written for Spanish and Argentinean newspapers on the occasion of their trips to different countries in Europe and America. It also offers a journey through the writer's life: travels that marked his intellectual training, which influenced his life, trips that were made out of desire, and others forced by circumstances beyond his control.

Juan Pérez de Ayala, who is responsible for this anthology and the introduction that precedes it, is a researcher in Intellectual History of the first third of the Spanish 20th century.
